As Sarawak's seat of state government, Kuching carries a concentration of state agencies, GLCs and the professional firms — legal, accounting, engineering, consultancy — that serve them. Running alongside that administrative core is a tourism economy: Kuching is the usual gateway for visitors heading to Bako National Park, the Sarawak Cultural Village and the wider push into Sarawak's rainforest and longhouse tourism, and the city's own waterfront and old town, with its Chinese shophouses along Carpenter Street and Malay kampung areas along the river, draw visitors in their own right. Retail and F&B in the city serve a mix of state civil servants, local Sarawakians and tourists passing through — three different audiences for the same shopfront.
What That Means for Your Website
A firm serving Sarawak's state institutions generally needs a properly credentialed company profile — SSM registration, a capability statement, and content written in formal English or Bahasa Malaysia rather than casual marketing copy — since the audience reading it is doing due diligence, not browsing. A tourism operator needs the opposite: strong photography, a package or itinerary structure a visitor can understand before they arrive, and English as the primary language, since most Kuching-bound tourism enquiries come from outside Sarawak or outside Malaysia entirely.
